Yvonne Chase

Department Chair, Professor, BHS Advisor

Yvonne serves as full professor and chair of the Department of Human Services. She is also the human services faculty advisor for the Bachelor of Human Services program. Her reputation for innovation in human services education and leadership cuts across Alaska and the United States. She brings considerable expertise to the department in the practice of student persistence and success.
 
Her background in diversity, inclusion, and equity strengthens the curriculum content in these areas, and she led the development of the Occupational Endorsement Certificate in Diversity and Social Justice. Dr. Chase serves as the President of the Council for Standards in Human Service Education, the accreditation council for human services education programs across the United States, and as President-Elect of the National Association of Social Workers. Dr. Chase teaches and practices on the Anchorage campus.

Betsy Cauble

Betsy Cauble, PhD, MSW,  retired from Kansas State University in May 2019. She served as associate Social Work Program coordinator from May 2015 to May 2019 following 10 years as head of the Dept. of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work at Kansas State University. During her 25 years at KSU, Cauble taught every course in the social work curriculum. Her prior experience includes serving as child welfare administrator at Franklin County Children's Services in Columbus, Ohio; director of a hospital social work department, family therapist, director of a custody mediation research project, and foster parent. Betsy received her bachelor鈥檚 degree in psychology from the University of Colorado and her M.S.W. and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Her areas of interest include social work practice, public policy, ethical behavioral health practice, and child welfare.

Ms. Larsen has been with GB Healthcare since 2006. In her current role, Dina provides a variety of risk and claim-related services to a sizeable multi-hospital Risk Retention Group (RRG) and a Risk Retention Group for social workers. Additionally, she serves as administrator for a multi-hospital online incident reporting system (RL Solutions).

Before joining GB Healthcare, Dina spent 18 years as the senior paralegal for a medical malpractice group of attorneys. Her responsibilities included preparing and maintaining medical record summaries, reviewing all pleadings filed with courts or hearing processes, confirming legal citations and document citations, and office docketing system compliance with calendar deadlines and court rules.

Ms. Larsen holds a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) designation, an exclusive certification offered by the American Hospital Association (AHA) for healthcare risk managers.

Phil Lawson
Phil leads claims and product development at Preferra. He has extensive experience adjudicating claims and lawsuits, developing insurance policy enhancements, and creating new liability RRG policies. Previously, Phil served as Senior Vice President of General Electric's liability and life & health insurance companies, Vice President of AIG liability insurance company, Vice President at AIG's P&C liability insurance business, and Vice President of Operations at a Sunoco - SUN Oil Company commercial finance business managing a $1 Billion investment portfolio. He began his business career with NCR Corporation, a Fortune 40 worldwide computer company.
 
Phil's association with the NASW began in 2005 as an insurance consultant leading the re-engineering of the endorsed life and health insurance program at NASW Assurance Services. Phil graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and School of Arts & Sciences, earning a Ph.D. and M.S. in business organization, and applied economics. He also holds an M.B.A. from Widener University and a B.S. in Business Administration.

Joe Monahan

Joseph T. Monahan, MSW, ACSW, JD, is the founder of Monahan Law Group, LLC, and a preeminent mental health law attorney in Illinois. In addition to representing individuals, Monahan Law Group, LLC provides legal services to over 90 hospitals, numerous mental health clinics, and child welfare and social service agencies. Over the past 38 years, Joe has successfully argued cases at every level of the Illinois court system, including the Illinois Supreme Court. In addition, his background as a social worker makes him acutely aware of the legal issues that impact social service professionals and the people they serve.

Joe is a steadfast advocate for persons with disabilities, their families, and the professionals who serve them. He has repeatedly served as Chair of the Illinois State Bar Association Mental Health Law Section Council and held numerous leadership positions in non-profit groups. Joe is a Past President of the NASW Risk Retention Group Board of Directors, the malpractice insurance company for social workers. He continues to serve on the Board and the Executive Committee of the NASW Preferra Insurance Company Risk Retention Group. Formerly, Joe taught mental health law as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Loyola University Chicago School of Law for 29 years. He additionally taught at Northwestern University School of Law.

Richard Jones

Richard L. Jones, Ph.D., has served in major leadership roles in the nonprofit sector throughout the country. He has served as the Administrator of the Division of Senior and Adult Services and the Administrator of Employment and Family Services and the Cuyahoga Support Enforcement Agency for Cuyahoga County. In 2013, he served as the Senior Vice President of Community Investment of the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago.

He was responsible for leadership, planning and measurement and execution of United Way鈥檚 strategic investments in the areas of income, education and health. Prior to this position, for 13 years, he served as President and CEO of Metropolitan Family Services in Chicago delivering more than $290M in programs and services to more than 600,000 people during this tenure.
