Learn in a Cohort Model

group of people studying at tableDepending on where you are at in your educational journey, as a Project SSWEND Scholar you will learn through a cohort model. If you have completed your BSW from a CSWE-accredited institution, you will join the advanced generalist cohort. Traditional MSW students join during their first year in a generalist cohort. Students who have already earned an MSW from a CSWE-accredited institution join our Post-MSW cohort. The benefits of cohort model learning are well documented and provide unique networking and collaboration opportunities as you work through your Project SSWEND program.

Receive Training for Placement in Local Schools

KIDS LINED UP AT SCHOOL BUSProject SSWEND Scholars complete the School Social Work Track, which enables them to apply for their Type C Certificate in Special Services – School Social Work through the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEED) with the State of Alaska. Additionally, students complete the Graduate Certificate in Children’s Mental Health, which prepares students to practice with children, families, and communities involved in complex systems of care. Finally, students are provided supervision monthly, which involves guidance and mentorship on topics relevant to the issues faced by the school district in which they are training. These experiences translate to ideal preparedness for working with youth, families, and communities across the Southcentral Alaska area.
