New “Goss Nursing Lounge” Planned
by ¼ϲʿ Office of Development |
The School of Nursing is excited to announce plans for a student nursing lounge. Thanks to a lead challenge gift from Ella and Brook Goss, ¼ϲʿ is embarking on a campaign to raise an additional $100K to complete the renovation of a current space in ¼ϲʿ’s Health Science Building (HSB). Ella Goss chose this naming opportunity because she believes in the importance of teaching nurses beginning from their time as students to take care of themselves.
“For nurses to be able to care for others, they must first care for themselves in a thoughtful way, making sure to get enough rest and downtime. I am excited about the opportunity to help create this special place for ¼ϲʿ’s nursing students,” says Goss.
Ella Goss, MSN, RN, serves as chief executive of Providence Alaska, the state’s largest health care provider. She most recently served as chief executive of PAMC and chief administrative officer for Providence Alaska’s critical access hospitals in Kodiak, Seward and Valdez. Prior to her appointment as chief executive, Goss served as the director of the Providence Cancer Center. Since joining Providence in 1997 as a staff nurse in the hospital's Emergency Department, Goss has served in a variety of leadership positions. Prior to joining Providence, she worked in rural emergency departments in Kotzebue and Newfoundland.
“With this leadership gift, we will invite others to help us honor Ella Goss’ service to the nursing profession and to provide that extra margin of support to each and every nursing student who spends time on campus in Anchorage," says Jennifer Motes, Senior Development Officer for the College of Health. "Whether they need a quiet place to study, rest, have a snack or a meal, or just connect with classmates, this space will be available to help them on their educational journey to becoming a nurse. With community support, we hope to be able to open the new lounge sometime in the near future.”
Every gift made by December 31 will be matched dollar for dollar up to $25,000 by Ella and Brook Goss. You may , by mail, or by contacting Jennifer Motes, the College of Health Senior Development Officer at (907) 713-7735.
