'Secrets under the Skin,' a collaborative work documenting connections between Cuban and Ghanaian religious ceremonies continues through Jan. 21, 2010

An illuminated manuscript from 'Secrets under the Skin,' on exhibit Jan. 16-21 at the Kimura GalleryThe 'Secrets under the Skin' project includes video, paintings, illuminated manuscripts, installation work and photography that document the link between religious Cuban and Ghanaian ceremonies. The artists collaborating on this project include Jill Flanders Crosby, Brian Jeffery, Susan Matthews, Brandon McElroy, Progressive Media Alaska and Marianne Kim.

The opening reception is Sunday, Jan. 16 from 1-3 p.m. on the second floor of the Fine Arts Building, 3640 Alumni Way on the мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± campus. Marianne Kim will perform via Skype during this reception. Cuban collaborating artists Roberto Pedroso Garcia and Melba Nunez Isalbe will participate through videos. The exhibit will be open through Friday, Jan. 21. Normal gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Anchorage exhibit follows a showing at the Fundacion Ludwig de Cuba in Havana, Cuba on Dec. 22-23 that will include live performance elements to be videotaped and shown during the Anchorage exhibition.

An from Aug. 14, 2009 offers background on Crosby's long-term research and this project. She explains her work in this and in a that she gave at мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± on March 26, 2009. This exhibition culminates much of that work.
