Cora Lyon was awarded the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship, an undergraduate scholarship awarded to about 300 college sophomores and juniors annually in the disciplines of natural science, mathematics, and engineering. The merit-based scholarship is allocated on need and awards recipients up to $7,500 for tuition.
As a first-generation college student, born and raised in Anchorage with Hawaiian roots, Leah Pacarro鈥檚 college experience has been dedicated to her jobs as a 40-hour employee and full-time student, but as a 2020 AHAINA Students of Excellence scholarship recipient, her student experience is about to change.

He will spend spring 2021 in Tampere, Finland, working with the biomaterials group at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. Headed by colleague Lisa Wikstrom, the biomaterials group works to develop bio-based alternatives to plastic.
